CAR T Cell Therapy

CAR T Cell Therapy (Chimeric Antigen Receptor T-cell Therapy) is a breakthrough cancer treatment that uses a patient’s own immune system to fight cancer. In this therapy, T cells are collected from the patient’s blood, genetically modified in a lab to recognize specific cancer cell markers, and then infused back into the body. These engineered T cells actively seek out and destroy cancer cells, making it a highly targeted and effective therapy for certain blood cancers like leukemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma.

  • Uses the patient’s own T cells to attack cancer.
  • Mainly used for relapsed or treatment-resistant blood cancers.
  • Steps: T cell collection → genetic modification → multiplication → infusion.
  • Can lead to long-term remission where other treatments have failed.
  • Side effects may include Cytokine Release Syndrome (CRS) and neurological symptoms, requiring close monitoring.
